Plain-language definitions of the terms you will hear around fleet repair.

ADAS

Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems. The cameras and sensors that power features like lane keeping. They must be recalibrated after collision repair.

Ballpark range

A non-binding estimate of what a repair typically costs, given before a full assessment.

DPF

Diesel Particulate Filter. A component that traps soot from diesel exhaust and needs periodic cleaning.

Frame straightening

Restoring a vehicle frame to factory specification using measured, controlled force after a collision.

Liftgate

The powered platform at the rear of a truck or van used to raise and lower cargo.

PM

Preventive Maintenance. Scheduled service performed to prevent breakdowns rather than react to them.

Reefer

A refrigerated truck body or trailer used to keep cargo cold in transit.

Refinishing

The paint process that returns a repaired panel to a factory-consistent finish.

Structural repair

Repair of the load-bearing parts of a vehicle, as opposed to cosmetic panel work.

Upfit

The shelving, racking, bulkheads, and equipment added to a work van or truck for a specific job.
